This club was not only made to serve our Lord but also to bring people closer to Christ. To know a little more about how this all began, here are some of our personal experiences that led us to be a part of Serve in Faith.
Executive Committee
All throughout my life I have struggled staying consistent in my relationship with Christ. During my freshman year of highschool, when I truly began seeking out the Lord, I noticed how I would constantly fall into sin and would feel ashamed that I couldn't control myself. I could never understand why. I loved God and wanted to live for him, yet the things around me and my social habits instigated my desire to sin more. This has gone on ever since, as I am in incoming Senior now, and lately i've realized that I have the power to make a difference.
For months I had prayed to the Lord asking Him to give me the strength to pull myself out of the rut I was living in and to commit to Him fully, but I still kept slipping back into sin. I believed that this was a set back, yet the reality of it is everyone will inevitably fall into sinful habits, behaviors, and actions. The most important thing to remember is that when Jesus died for our sins, he also freed us. When we surrender our lives to him, the same spirit the resurrected Him from the dead is living in us today. This reminder is what allowed me to take the first steps into making the Serve in Faith Club.
Although, I said we are destined to sin, we are also destined to serve Christ. I knew without changing my environments and habits, that sin would only drag me down further. I knew that I needed to give up all my worldly desires for someone who loves me unconditionally, our Lord and Savior. My hope is that through this club, we not only can bring people closer to God, but also create meaningful friendships and connections with those around us. Highschool is such an amazing part of life, but the urge to sin is much stronger when you are constantly living a life a part of things that don't reflect God.
The Serve in Faith Club is an answered prayer for me. He has shown me that I can indeed make a change, and that anyone who submits their life fully to Him can too. With this opportunity, I will be able to dive deeper into my relationship with Christ while also serving others. I pray that people will join us from whereever they are in life, even if they are a non-believer. If you are thinking that you are too far away from God to join us, you don't know enough, or simply have never given your life to Him, that means you are exactly in the place you're meant to be! You are never "too far" into sin or away from the Lord to not repair your relationship, that is a lie from the enemy and a common misconception. What matters most is that you never give up your faith in Him, that when you are drawn into sin (which everyone is) you will pick yourself up and truly repent to our Lord.
Shame is not of God, and He wants us to come back to Him always. Serving others, I believe, will bring out the humbleness and compassion that resides within us to take into our journey with Him. The people that we meet and the experiences we will be a part of will be an everlasting blessing. I know you too have the power to make a difference in a person's life too, even with just one conversation.
I’ve grown up going to church since I was born, I’ve always considered myself a christian but it was a very passive thing that I did not give too much thought to. It was not until my freshman and sophomore year that I began to understand what it was like to see Jesus moving through my life and to build a true relationship with him.
I struggled with my faith for years because I had no hope or belief that things would get better, but Romans 8:18 says “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.” I came to learn the true meaning of those words after praying to God time and time again to help me get through such a painful time in my life which seemingly lasted forever, and suddenly a day came where I was just sitting in my room, and I physically felt a stronghold break inside of me, and I had an overwhelming realization that Jesus had answered the prayer I had been praying since I was little. I was finally on the other side of my personal struggles.
It is an ineffable, indescribable feeling to realize that what you have been struggling with your entire life is over, and you weren’t present enough in your own life to see that you have reached better days. From that day forward I dedicated myself to doing everything I can to be a God Fearing person, and bettering myself with the word of God every time that he wakes me up to live another day on His earth. And although I mentioned that my personal struggles had seemingly lasted forever, I now know that it was all a part of the plan God has for me, and I am eternally grateful for all of my hardships because they have made me so incredibly strong and taught me lessons that I am so thankful to know now.
I know now that Jesus heard my cries for help, and heard my prayers, but I had to experience those hardships because they made me the person I am today. I have learned so many beautiful lessons from Jesus, but one that will forever be in the front of my mind is that I have worked so hard with Jesus to get to where I am today not to be the best person I can be. So, I joined Serve in Faith, in hopes to give others who may be living in hopelessness a sign that they will be alright and that God has a plan for them, and all they have to do is listen.
I want to reach people in a way that I need to be reached, and I want them to know that even if we can’t begin to understand their struggles, there are people here that want to help them, love them, support them and share their hope with them. I know I still have so much to learn, but no matter what I am going through I know that God has a plan for me and as long as I remain in my faith I will be okay. I am so excited to see how much of a difference we can make with Serve In Faith, and I am so grateful to have an amazing opportunity to serve our God.
Throughout my life, I’ve always been told and I recognize in myself that I’m a nurturer. I want people to feel happy, supported, and at peace. That’s why this opportunity stood out to me so much, it gives me a chance to serve my community in a way that reflects what I believe God calls us to do.
When I was younger, I remember loving God and feeling really connected to my faith. But in middle school, my relationship with Him became more complicated. I went through things that made me question why He would let that happen to me. Then, in 8th grade, when my injury happened, I felt completely broken and couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Looking back, though, I realize that God was with me through all of it. I felt a sense of peace during my recovery that I didn’t feel like I deserved, and that’s when I understood that God meets you where you are. His love isn’t something you earn, it’s always there, no matter what.
In high school, I feel like God has continued to guide me toward different opportunities and helped me better understand who I am. After another injury, I struggled again and found myself asking “why?” without ever getting a clear answer. Over the past few months, I’ve been searching for something that truly fulfills me, and I’ve realized that it isn’t found in the world, it’s found in Him. I spent so much time chasing what I thought I wanted instead of what God intended for me. Now, I truly believe this opportunity came into my life at exactly the right time, when I felt lost and unsure of my purpose. Through this, I’ve started to understand that my purpose is to serve others.
